Act a Lady
by Jordan Harrison
It's 1927 in a Midwestern town, and 3 local men decide to mount a play. With the help of one of their wives and her accordion, and a female director from Europe who wears pants, they mount a period piece about 3 women. Men portray women, women turn into men, and the dividing line between life and the stage is blurred beyond recognition. Part drag show, part meditation on the role of culture in our daily lives, Seattle native Jordan Harrison's play was the comic hit of the 2006 Humana Festival of new plays.
